One of the Best Runners in the UK at the 2008 G5 ...
The present world record of 26 minutes 10 seconds is held by Laurie O'Hara (Ireland) since 1992. Martin already holds the the 5km World Record of 15 minutes 31 seconds, obtained at Gloucester and the 10km World Record of 32 minutes 2 seconds at Leeds. Martin's rigorous training regime sees him training up to 90 miles per week. Keeping in top form allows him to win many of the races he enters. He has won the Glynneath 5 six times. The race organiser Arthur Phillips, is delighted with the news of Martin's record attempt and has ensured that all the appropriate officials are at the event to officially record the result for the record books. "We have got to have everything in place", said Mr Phillips who is confident Martin will succeed. Arthur added, " He is one of the best runners in the UK. The only thing that will stop him is the weather, the wind can be very harsh at times and if he is running against it, it might make his task more difficult. Every time he has attempted a record, he has done it, hopefully he will be successful on this occasion". Go for it Martin ... we wish you every success with the record attempt and we are very grateful that you and other high class runners participate in this and other running events in our region of Wales. |
